An interview with Charlotte Holyhead

Here’s Charlotte. She’s our new Quantity Surveyor. So, we thought we’d do a quick-fire interview as a way of introducing her. Here’s what she said, chatting to Tracey Wright.

Okay Charlotte, what’s your role at Enrok?

Well, I absolutely love numbers – it’s a bit of a quirk of mine. I’m counting things all day. It’s a good job really, considering I’m a Quantity Surveyor! So, I’m very focused on all the commercial aspects of our projects, including procurement, keeping a project on track financially and making sure our clients get real value for their money. Right now, I’m getting my teeth into three projects. There’s our commercial development in Nuneaton – Hartshill Medical Centre, a residential development in Regan Way, Shoreditch and the Sports Pavilion in Ashbourne. I’m also looking at upcoming projects and tenders that Enrok are hoping to start in the next few months.

What attracted you?

The family run feel you get with the team. I love the fact that Enrok has their sights firmly set on where they want to go – they’re very focused. I’m working on some really interesting projects and their portfolio is continuing to expand with commercial and residential developments. It’s great for me to be able to dip my toe into something new. Enrok are also sponsoring me through my Chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which is starting in October. I’m grateful and excited in equal measure!

Work and home life balance is important to Enrok – so being able to work flexibly and still be involved in all aspects of a project is something I really appreciate with a busy family life.

What did you do before?

I’ve been in construction for more than a decade. Previously, I worked for West Midlands based Jessup Brothers as a Lead Quantity Surveyor, primarily cost managing a new build housing framework for a Local Authority and stand-alone schemes, as well as estimating future developments and organising utilities & Local Authority Agreements.

I graduated from Birmingham City University with a First-Class Honours in Quantity Surveying and was really proud to have won an Outstanding Achievement Award through RICS. I’m also an Ambassador for Women in the Built Environment, joining annual STEM and career events to support the importance of diversity in the sector – an initiative that Enrok fully stands behind.

And outside of construction?

I like to keep busy! I run weekly Cub Scout sessions for local children, working with other Scout leaders to create the best possible experience for them, and I volunteer for local charities when they need an extra pair of hands.

Outside of volunteering, I love spending weekends in Wales with my partner and children Henry and Edith. I’m always on the look-out to try something new and have so far tried skydiving, abseiling and helicopter-flying! Mmmm, I think there’s possibly an altitude theme coming through here Charlotte!
